WHO/WHAT: COME FOR THE KIDS. STAY BECAUSE THIS FAMILY IS A GEM. Every once in a while, we get to recruit for a family we already know and love — and this is one of those times.

We originally placed this family’s current nanny more than two years ago, and she has had such a wonderful experience with them that we asked her to tell us what it’s really like to spend your days in this home.

Her review?

“This family is amazing to work for.”

They have been incredibly flexible, considerate of her schedule, supportive when she needs time off, and genuinely appreciative of the person caring for their children.

This Peters Township family has affectionate, energetic 3.5-year-old twin boys and their happy baby sister. The twins are autistic and have speech delays, and they are making exciting progress with communication, including learning to use AAC devices to express what they want and need.

But if you're picturing a highly clinical day, think again.

These boys LOVE being kids.

They want to be tickled awake in the morning. They love being chased, tossed around, listening to music, playing outside, climbing, swinging, building train tracks, and laughing hysterically at videos of themselves as though they’ve never seen anything funnier.

Their current nanny describes them as incredibly sweet, affectionate boys who are learning new things all the time.

And then there’s baby sister — sweet, smart, hilarious, and already bringing a little bit of sass to the operation. She loves peek-a-boo, hide-and-seek, the family dog, and following her big brothers around hoping they'll eventually decide to wave back.

In other words: this is a house full of personality.

A NOTE FROM SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY KNOWS

One of our favorite things the family’s current nanny shared with us was this:

This was her first job caring for children on the autism spectrum.

And after more than two years with the family, she says even the hardest day here is no harder than a hard day in any home with two preschoolers and a baby.

We think that matters.

You do not need to walk into this role as an autism expert.

Of course, if you have experience in behavioral health, special education, early intervention, ABA, speech or occupational therapy support, developmental services, or another special-needs setting, we would LOVE to hear from you. Your background would be incredibly valued.

But if you're an experienced nanny who is warm, patient, curious, playful, and open to learning, please don't assume this role isn't for you.

The boys currently receive ABA therapy most mornings, and their team is collaborative and happy to share the strategies and communication tools that are helping them thrive. You will not be asked to serve as their therapist. Your role is to take what works and weave it naturally into everyday life — while still getting to be the person who plays chase, turns up the music, celebrates the victories, and knows exactly which kind of tickle gets the biggest laugh.

THE DAY-TO-DAY

Both parents work from home in separate offices and intentionally give their nanny space to run the show.

Grandma has also been an incredible part of the boys’ lives. She is ready to transition into more of a “just Grandma” role, but she’ll still happily join the occasional outing or lend an extra set of hands.

And this is important: you will not be expected to wrangle all three children through big outings by yourself.

For swim lessons, appointments, splash parks, and similar adventures, there will always be at least two adults.

Your days will include plenty of play, outdoor time, books, music, baby snuggles, bottles, naps, developmental play, and helping the twins continue building communication skills in natural ways.

When the kids are settled, you’ll pitch in with child-related household tasks such as:

  • Children’s laundry
  • Light meal prep
  • Tidying children's spaces
  • Vacuuming and sweeping as needed
  • Occasionally letting out the family corgi, who is convinced everyone entering the house has come specifically to visit him

THE IDEAL NANNY IS…Someone who genuinely enjoys little kids.

You’re active enough to chase preschoolers around the yard, silly enough to make them laugh, and patient enough to give them an extra moment when communication takes a little longer.

You don’t get rattled easily.

You notice progress.

You’re comfortable learning new ways for children to communicate and are willing to follow the guidance of parents and therapists while still bringing your own warmth, instincts, creativity, and personality into the home.

Maybe you've worked as an RBT, behavioral health technician, paraprofessional, special education aide, developmental specialist, or caregiver for children with additional needs.

Or maybe you're simply a fantastic nanny who has a gift for meeting children exactly where they are.

Either could be a wonderful fit.

Most importantly, this family wants someone who sees three really great kids first — not a diagnosis.

They’re hoping to find a nanny who will know what makes the boys belly-laugh, understand what they’re trying to communicate, celebrate the moment something new finally clicks, snuggle their baby sister, laugh at the chaos, and become another trusted person in their little village.

Their current nanny has happily been part of this family for more than two years.

We think that says quite a lot.

If you've been reading this thinking, Okay…these kids actually sound really fun, we hope you'll apply.

They are.
